Despite his tender years, Clarkson has been a regular goalkeeper in local footballl for the past three season, having been handed his debut at the age of 16 by West Midlands (Regional) Premier League side Wolverhampton Casuals in the 2019-2020 season

Casuals manager Dean Gill took Clarkson with him the following season as he took over at West Midlands (Regional) Division One outfit Tipton Town, although the season was to only last a matter of weeks before there coronavirus pandemic saw the season ended prematurely

Gill was on the move once more in 2021 and joined fellow Midland Football League Division One side Darlaston Town (1874), once again taking Clarkson with him. Clarkson was an ever present for the Citizens during the early stages of the 2021-2022 campaign as Darlaston made an impressive start to life in their new division after a summer move sideways from the West Midlands (Regional) League, prompting the Pitmen to sign the youngster as cover for regular stopper Jono Brown in November 2021
