Experienced defender who can play in a number of positions across defence who rejoined the Pitmen from BetVictor Northern Premier League Division One side Kidsgrove Athletic in February 2020

A player with extensive experience at steps three and four in recent seasons, who played in North Staffordshire and Shropshire during the early parts of his career for the likes of Hanley Town and Market Drayton Town, before joining Leek Town in 2013 until the end of the 2013-2014 campaign

He joined Evo-Stik Premier League side Rushall Olympic on the verge of the 2014-2015 season but stayed for only a handful of games before moving back to Staffordshire to join Kidsgrove Athletic

His stay lasted just two months before Thompson returned to Harrison Park to rejoin Leek in December 2014. He remained there until the end of the season and joined league rivals Chasetown in July 2015. He enjoyed a consistent 2015-2016 with the Scholars, making forty starts as Chasetown narrowly missed out on the Evo-Stik Division One South play-offs

In March 2016, he was heavily linked with a move to Vanarama National League North side Worcester City, but despite speculation, never made the move to Aggborough

After leaving Chasetown in July 2016, he linked up with the Pitmen on trial, playing in the club's final two pre-season games before agreeing a deal with Liam McDonald ahead of the new Evo-Stik Premier League season. He made a handful of appearances for the club at the start of the campaign before losing out to fellow new signing Lewis Wright and rejoined Chasetown in September 2016

He completed the season as an ever-present at Chasetown before making a return to Kidsgrove in the summer of 2017. In three seasons for Grove, Thompson was in and out of the side and played one game on dual registration with North West Counties League Hanley in December 2019

In February 2020, he made a return to Keys Park to rejoin the Pitmen to add to the club's options across defence for the final third of the BetVictor Southern Premier League Central season
