PLAYER BIO

An experienced midfielder who can also play as an attacking player who joined the Pitmen in November 2020 from league rivals Bromsgrove Sporting

A player who has spent much of his career at the top end of non-league football, Jamaican-born Richards started his career as a junior at Coventry City before moving to Brighton & Hove Albion as a first-year professional in July 2013. He was given his first taste of senior football in October 2013 with a three-month loan move to near neighbours Whitehawk, playing several games in Skrill South until he was recalled by Brighton in January 2014

Richards was released by Brighton in the summer of 2014 without making the breakthrough at the AMEX Stadium and made the move across the south coast to join newly-relegated Vanarama Conference National side Torquay United. His stay at Plainmoor was to prove a great success as he became a regular starter for the Gulls over the next three seasons, despite Torquay consistently struggling towards the foot of the table

The summer of 2017 saw Richards make the move to league rivals Macclesfield Town, making a handful of appearances for the Silkmen as they became the season's surprise package by topping the National League table for much of the season. He was allowed to join fellow National League side, Solihull Moors, in September 2017 on a three-month loan deal, making ten appearances for the Moors

After being released by Macclesfield in May 2018, he joined Nuneaton Borough and was impressive for the Liberty Way side with sixteen appearances early on in the season as Boro struggled at the foot of the National League North table. In November 2018, he made the move south again to join another struggling side in the form of National League side Braintree Town. Despite being a virtual ever-present for the Iron, they were relegated back to step two at the end of the season after finishing bottom of the table

A return to the Midlands in the summer of 2019 saw him link up with Midland League side AFC Wulfrunians during the pre-season programme before joining Darren Byfield's Alvechurch side in September 2019. However, after only a handful of appearances for the Church, he made the move to league rivals Stratford Town in October 2019 on a deal until the end of the season. His form for Stratford saw him given the captain's armband later on in the season until the 2019-2020 campaign was brought to an abrupt end due to the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020

In September 2020, Richards moved to league rivals Bromsgrove Sporting ahead of the new season, making five starts for the Rouslers and scoring against the Pitmen at Keys Park in Bromsgrove's 5-1 reverse in October 2020. The following month, on the player's 27th birthday, he agreed to a move to the Pitmen to link up with new manager Keenen Meakin-Richards and his new-look management team

Richards was to make a handful of appearances for the Pitmen before the season was brought to a halt and subsequently voided in early 2021. However, he agreed to remain at Keys Park for the forthcoming season after signing a new deal with the club in June 2021
