JACK ROSE | GOALKEEPER
PLAYER BIO
Hugely experienced EFL goalkeeper who joined the Pitmen on a season-long loan from newly-relegated Sutton United in August 2024
A trainee at West Bromwich Albion from an early age, Solihull-born Rose signed his first professional deal with the Baggies in July 2013 when he was promoted to the U21 side. He made fourteen appearances in his maiden season at U21 level in the Premier League 2. A further nine appearances followed the following season before Rose was loaned to Accrington Stanley in November 2014 to deputise for injured stoppers Aaron Chapman and Jesse Joronen. He made his full debut for Stanley in an F.A. Cup game against Notts County two days later, keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw
After extending his initial loan to three months, Rose returned to the Hawthorns in January 2015. The start of the 2015-2016 season saw Rose thrust into the first-team spotlight as he was named among the substitutes for West Brom's first four Premier League games of the new season before returning to the U21 side, where he played twelve times. In March 2016, Rose spent another short loan spell out in the EFL with a move to Crawley Town on a deal until the end of the season, making five starts
The 2016-2017 season was to prove the final one for Rose at West Brom, despite the stopper making his full debut in an EFL Trophy game against Millwall in August 2016 and making a further appearance amongst the substitutes for a Premier League game against Middlesbrough earlier in the month. After thirteen more appearances for the U21 side, Rose departed West Brom in May 2017 at the expiry of his contract, joining Southampton on a free transfer in August 2017
Roses's three years at St. Mary's was to prove similar to his spell at West Brom - plenty of appearances for the U21 side but only brief glimpses of first-team football. Fifteen U21 games in 2017-2018 was followed by fifteen more the following year, with only five substitute appearances for the first team in EFL Trophy action over the two years
At the start of the 2019-2020 season, Rose returned to his West Midlands roots with a season-long loan to League Two Walsall, where he was used mainly as back-up to Liam Roberts with only six starts for the season before returning to Southampton. With his three-year deal up on the South Coast, Rose elected to return to Walsall on a permanent deal in September 2020, enjoying two long spells as number one through the season as he chalked up fifteen starts for the Saddlers
Another largely frustrating spell as number two followed in 2021-2022, with Rose limited to just three starts as he had to be content with an understudy role to Brighton & Hove loanee Carl Rushworth for the campaign
At the expiry of his Saddlers contract, Rose headed to South London and joined fellow League Two side Sutton United on a long-term deal. His first season at Gander Green Lane saw Rose cement his place as number one, making thirty-seven starts as Sutton finished in a comfortable mid-table position. 2023-2024 was top prove less fruitful as Rose lost his place early on in the season and was limited to just eleven starts. Without Rose, Sutton struggled and were eventually relegated back to the Vanarama National League after finishing twenty-third in the table
Rose - still contracted to Sutton for 2024-2025 - elected to make his first-ever foray into non-league football in August 2024 by joining the highly ambitious Pitmen for a season-long loan
