ELLIOTT JOHNSON | DEFENCE
PLAYER BIO
A hugely experienced left-sided defender who joined Hednesford from National League side Dagenham & Redbridge in June 2024
Hendon-born Johnson - comfortable at centre-back or left-back - joined his local side Barnet as a junior, making his first team debut at the age of just 16 years old when he came off the bench in an F.A. Cup first-round game against Charlton Athletic in October 2010
After signing his first professional contract for the Bees in 2012, Johnson started his first game for the club against Torquay United in November 2012, going on to make over twenty starts for the club through the 2012-2013 campaign that saw Barnet relegated back to non-league football at the end of the season
After moving to their new ground the Hive in 2013, Barnet adapted well to life back in non-league and won promotion back to League Two in 2014-2015, with Johnson an almost ever-present for the club as they clinched the Conference Premier title
Johnson was a regular figure in the Barnet defence for the next two seasons as the Bees consolidated their position back in the Football League with two fifteenth-placed finishes. However, the 2017-2018 season saw injury strike for the popular player, as Johnson suffered a long-term knee injury against Luton Town in August 2017 that kept the full-back out for the remainder of the season. He was forced to sit out a campaign that saw Barnet once again relegated back to the National League as they finished 23rd in the League Two table
Having recovered from injury, Johnson returned to the Barnet side for the 2018-2019 season and made thirty-eight appearances, making the left-back spot his own once more. However, under manager Darren Currie, Johnson fell out of favour during the 2019-2020 campaign and was allowed to join divisional rivals Dagenham in August 2020
His consistent form for Barnet continued at Dagenham, making thirty-seven starts in his first season at Victoria Road as they finished in twelfth place at the end of a Covid-interrupted season. 2021-2022 saw Dagenham challenging for the play-offs as they looked for a long-awaited return to the Football League but missed out on the final day of the season by a solitary point
2022-2023 saw the Daggers way off the pace as opposed to the previous year, finishing in mid-table once more before a fifteenth-placed finish in 2023-204 saw Johnson's deal with the club run out. Despite being offered a new deal by Dagenham, Johnson elected to link up with the well-connected Steve King at Keys Park, making the mighty three-division drop to join the ambitious Pitmen
