Vastly experienced EFL defender who joined the Pitmen in March 2026

A former MK Dons trainee, Williams left Stadium:MK as a teenager to focus on his studies and moved to Loughborough University in 2013, playing for the University football side. His form for the Students attracted the interest of non-league football clubs, with Skrill North Worcester City signing Williams in the summer of 2013

A superb, ever-present season for Williams at Aggborough saw Williams come under the radar of professional sides, with League One side Barnsley clinching the youngster's signature in December 2014. He made his Tykes debut in the same week against Preston North End but was used mainly as a substitute for the remainder of the campaign.

The following season saw Williams more involved in first-team action, making twenty appearances and playing in the League One play-off final in May 2016, with Barnsley earning promotion to the Championship with a 3-1 win over Millwall at Wembley

Despite earning promotion, Williams was released at the end of his Barnsley deal in June 2016, making a return to MK Dons on a free transfer on an initial two-year deal. He established himself as a fine League One defender over the next five years, making over 150 starts for Dons in a memorable five-year spell that saw the club relegated to League Two in 2017-2018 but return to League One the following year after finishing third

With his contract due to expire in six months, Williams joined fellow League One outfit Bristol Rovers on a short-term deal in January 2021, where he was an ever-present for a side that was eventually relegated back to League Two after five years in the third tier

A move to League One side Cambridge United followed in June 2021, with Williams once again proving his credentials as a solid, reliable defender at the level as he made nearly eighty starts in his two-year spell at the Abbey Stadium. The 2022-2023 season was a struggle on the pitch for the 'U's, who narrowly avoided relegation at the end of the season with a twentieth-place finish

After coming to the end of his contract at Cambridge, Williams joined League Two side Mansfield Town on a free transfer in July 2023. His first season for the Stags was a huge success, as Nigel Clough's side earned promotion to League One with a third-placed finish in 2023-2024, following this up with a season of consolidation in 2024-2025 with a seventeenth-placed finish

Williams departed Field Mill at the end of his two-year contract and sat out the majority of the 2025-2026 season before joining the Pitmen in March 2026 to add his considerable experience to their push for the Northern Premier League title. He weighed in with two goals in the last three games, including a crucial injury-time equaliser in the play-off final against Warrington Rylands that took the game to penalties, with the Pitmen prevailing to earn themselves promotion

In May 2026, Williams was one of six players to agree new, full-time deals with the club after Hednesford had offered several players terms with the intention of turning professional
