Talented goalscoring midfielder who joined the Pitmen from Enterprise National League side FC Halifax Town in June 2026
Liverpool-born Cooke is a product of the Fleetwood Town academy, playing for the U18 side during the 2019-2020 season before being released in May 2020. He joined North West Counties League side Colne for a spell at the start of the 2020-2021 season, but his excellent early-season form was brought to a halt by the coronavirus pandemic
Nevertheless, Halifax had seen enough in the teenager from his short spell at Colne to convince the youngster to move to the Shay in August 2021, with Halifax paying Colne a small compensation fee for the player. He was immediately sent out on loan to Pitching In Northern Premier League side FC United of Manchester for a month, before having a two-month loan spell at FC United's divisional rivals Matlock Town and a further month at Vanarama National League North side Curzon Ashton at the turn of the year
Upon his return to the Shay, Cooke made a handful of appearances for the side before really establishing himself in the side throughout 2022-2023, making nearly thirty starts and scoring five times as the Shaymen finished in a comfortable mid-table position in the National League. It was the F.A. Trophy that would write Cooke's name into folklore, however, as his first-half goal against Gateshead clinched Halifax's second Trophy win in eight seasons with a 1-0 win at Wembley
2023-2024 saw Cooke suffer an injury lay-off that limited him to only twenty-one starts, before 2024-2025 brought him back to form with thirty-seven starts and seven goals from midfield as Halifax finished sixth in the table and qualified for the play-offs, losing heavily to local rivals Oldham Athletic in the quarter-final
2025-2026 was another season of frustrating injuries for Cooke as a mid-season lay-off saw him miss a chunk of the season, with the Shaymen just missing out on the play-offs once more with an eighth-placed finish
The summer of 2026 saw Cooke end his long association with Halifax, electing to make the move to Keys Park and take the one division drop to sign for the Pitmen ahead of their National League North return
