PLAYER BIO

Vastly experienced defender with over 300 professional appearances to his name who signed for the Pitmen in March 2024

Crewe-born and part of the famed Alex academy from a young age, Brown made a solitary first-team appearance for his hometown club in February 2008 as a substitute in a game against Brighton & Hove Albion. He had been allowed to join local non-league side Kisgrove Atheltic for a short spell on loan earlier in the season before returning to Gresty Road, where he was released at the end of his deal in June 2008

Brown dropped into non-league football in a bid for first-team action, signing for the newly-formed FC Halifax Town in July 2008. Playing mainly as a left-winger, the youngster had an impressive season at the Shay, scoring eight times from thirty-three games as Halifax finished eighth int the Northern Premier League Division One North

His form attracted interest from clubs closer to his Crewe home, with near-neighbours Northwich Victoria signing the player in June 2009 ahead of their Blue Square North campaign. Again, Brown proved a hit with three goals in thirty-two starts for the Vics, prompting a return to professional football in June 2020 with a move to ambitious Blue Square Premier side Fleetwood Town. This was to prove one of two pivotal moves in the player's career as he established himself in the Cod Army side that swept to the title in 2011-2012

He remained at Highbury for the next two seasons as they firstly consolidated themselves in League Two before earning a first-ever promotion to League One in the 2013-2014 season. By this point, Brown had started to drop out of favour and spent the final two months of the season out on loan at League One strugglers Tranmere Rovers before being released at the end of his contract

A move to Oxford United was in the offing for Brown in July 2014, although it was to prove a short stay at the Kassam Stadium with only nine starts before he moved to League Two strugglers Mansfield Town on a deal until the end of the 2014-2015 season

A return to his native Midlands saw a move much closer to home in June 2015 with a transfer to newly-promoted League One outfit Shrewsbury Town. Again, this was to prove to be a fruitful move for the player as he established himself in the Shrews squad for the next three seasons in the third tier

After over 100 starts for the club, he was offered a contract extension in the summer of 2018 but opted to join league rivals Coventry City on a free transfer. During his two seasons at the Ricoh Arena, Brown made eighteen starts for the Sky Blues, spending most of his second season out on loan at League Two basement dwellers Scunthorpe United

At the end of his deal at Coventry, Brown joined Scunthorpe on a permanent deal in October 2020 and made fourteen starts for the Iron as they continued to struggle towards the foot of the League Two table

A move to fellow League Two side Bristol Rovers in August 20231 saw Brown move south once more, only making a handful of appearances at the Memorial Ground before departing in the summer of 2022. Citing a desire to return to his Crewe roots, Brown made a five-division drop in August 2022 to sign for Midland Premier League side Whitchurch Alport, playing regularly in a variety of positions for the club throughout the 2022-2023 season and into the first half of the 2023-2024 campaign before leaving the club by mutual consent in December 2023

In March 2024, after a short spell away from the game, the experienced Brown signed for the Pitmen on non-league registration deadline day and made his debut two days later in a 3-0 win over Witton Albion
