Hugely experienced EFL midfielder who joined Hednesford from Cheltenham Town in January 2026
The son of former Aston Villa and Republic of Ireland midfielder Mark, Liam joined Walsall at the age if eight and signed his first professional contract with the Saddlers in the summer of 2014. His Walsall debut soon followed, coming on as a substitute against Bradford City in August 2014
Over the next nine years Kinsella became a mainstay of the Walsall side, becoming a fan favourite with his non-stop work rate and energy in the centre of the park. A man of few goals in his career, his first of only four career goals came in October 2015 against Burton Albion, moving Walsall to the top of the League One table in the process
He was called up to the Republic of Ireland U19 side during the 2015-2016 season as a reward for his fine form at Walsall, making two appearances for his father's country. He also made five appearances for the Eire U21 side during the 2017-2018 season
Walsall had been treading water at League One level for a couple of years, finally succumbing to relegation back to League Two at the end of the 2018-2019 season. Despite this, Kinsella extended his long association at Bescot with a contract extension, which was further extended by two years in January 2021
The Saddlers' downward spiral continued in League Two, finishing in mid-table in 2019-2020 before narrowly avoiding relegation at the end of the COVID-hit 2020-2021 season as they finished nineteenth in the table. Despite this, Kinsella cemented his reputation as a fine League Two midfielder with player of the year nods in both 2020-2021 and 2021-2022
After another contract extension into 2022-2023, Kinsella helped Walsall to a fairly mundane sixteenth-place finish, electing to leave the club at the end of his deal to join league rivals Swindon Town, linking up again with one of his former Walsall bosses, Michael Flynn
In his one year at the County Ground, Swindon were hit with off-the-field issues that contributed to then finishing in nineteenth place at the end of the season. After only fourteen starts in Wiltshire, the Aldridge-based player made the move to another League Two side in the form of Cheltenham Town, who had just been relegated from League One
His form over the next two years at Whaddon Road saw him become a fan's favourite once more as the Robins finished fifteenth in his first season there. He was an ever-present and continued his all-action form until the return of Steve Cotterill to the club in September 2025
After falling out of favour, Cotterill allowed the player to leave the club by mutual consent in January 2026, with the Pitmen making their move to secure the signature of local lad Kinsella - a hugely impressive statement signing for the promotion-chasing club
