Former Aston Villa and England U21 striker who signed for the Pitmen in February 2024

Birmingham-born and raised, Delfouneso joined Aston Villa from an early age and worked his way through the youth set-up at Villa Park, signing his first professional contract in March 2007 and going on to have a prolific season on front of goal for the club's reserve side. He earned his first call-up to the first team in February 2008 but had to wait for his debut until the following season when he came on as a substitute in a UEFA Cup tie against FH Hafnarfjarðar

His first Villa start came in the same competition later on in the season against MŠK Žilina and followed this up with his first-ever goal in claret and blue against Hamburg in December 20028, again in UEFA Cup action. In January 2009, Delfouneso made his first domestic start in an F.A. Cup 3rd round tie at Gillingham and picked up a first domestic Villa goal in the same competition when Villa played Doncaster Rovers in the following round

The youngster made his long-awaited Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur in March 2009, replacing fellow local lad Gabriel Agbonlahor late on in the game. His breakout season saw Villa offer Delfouneso a new two-and-a-half-year deal in November 2009 but struggled to replicate his previous season's impact as he was limited mainly to substitute appearances. Despite this, he chalked up a first-ever Premier League goal in April 2010 against Portsmouth

His former for Villa led to a call-up for England U21s in February 2010, scoring on his debut against Greece in the first of eighteen caps and four goals for his country over the next two years

As Delfouneso entered the final year of his deal at Villa, he enjoyed a run in the team due to injuries to fellow strikers Emile Heskey, John Carew and Agbonlahor early in the campaign, scoring against Blackpool at Villa Park In November 2010. He had impressed sufficiently to earn a new two-year deal at the club, although the 2010-2011 season was one of frustration that led to a loan move away from Villa Park to Burnley in March 2011, where he scored once in seven starts for the Clarets

A similar loan period was to follow to Leicester City the following season, although this was to prove a fruitless spell at Walkers Stadium as he made five substitute appearances without scoring and returned to Villa in February 2013

A season-long loan to Blackpool was next in the offing for Delfouneso in the summer of 2012, which proved to be a huge success as he played a whole campaign for the Championship side, scoring seven times in twenty-four starts for the Tangerines. With a new contract at Villa signed to take him until the end of the 2013-2014 season, Delfouneso was allowed to rejoin Blackpool on another six-month loan in August 2013, though this was less of a roaring success as the previous campaign with no goals in three starts

A loan move a little closer to home in January 2014 saw Delfouneso loaned to Coventry City for the remainder of the season, where he enjoyed a more fruitful spell with three goals in eight starts for the Sky Blues. Upon his return to Villa Park, it was announced in May 2014 that the player would be leaving the club at the end of his current contract

Having been a relative success in his previous spells at Blackpool, it perhaps came as little surprise that the striker rejoined the club on a free transfer in July 2014, playing a full season in the Championship for the club in 2014-2015 before former Premier League champions Blackburn Rovers came in for him at the end of his one year deal in August 2015. However, it was to prove a misstep as Delfouneso was limited to just eight starts during his one year at Ewood Park and spent the last two months of the season out on loan at Bury

A move down south saw Swindon Town sign the 25-year-old on a free transfer in August 2016, but again a lack of goals saw Delfouneso limited to just three strikes in seventeen starts at the County Ground before electing to make a return to Blackpool in January 2017

Back amongst familiar surroundings, Delfouneso found his feet once more, becoming a regular starter once more over the next three seasons as he grabbed twenty-nine goals in just over 100 starts before the season ended due to the coronavirus pandemic

He made the short switch across Lancashire to join Bolton Wanderers in August 2020 in a one-year deal, enjoying a good season in front of goal as the fallen Premier League side finished third in League Two, earning themselves promotion back to League One at the first time of asking

After agreeing a contract extension for the following season, Delfouneso fell down the pecking order at the Macron Stadium during the 2021-2022 season and was loaned to Bradford City for a short spell towards the end of the campaign before being released. His tour around Lancashire continued in the summer of 2022 with a move to League One side Accrington Stanley, although minutes were very limited for the player as the Reds tumbled back down to League Two at the end of the season

Before the end of the 2022-2023 season, Delfouneso dropped into non-league football for the first time in his career as he joined Vanarama National League big spenders AFC Fylde on a short-term deal. After spending a short time out of first-team football, Delfouneso pitched up at Vanarama National League North side Chorley, scoring in his only game for the Magpies before making a return to his native West Midlands in February 2024 to become Hednesford's marquee Spring signing as they looked for more firepower in their bid to avoid the drop to step five
