PLAYER BIO

Experienced, energetic midfielder who rejoined the Pitmen in June 2024 after a short spell at Vanarama National League North neighbours Rushall Olympic

A former trainee at Birmingham City, Maye left St. Andrews without making a first-team appearance and took the well-trodden path from Blues to Tamworth in 2011. He was a regular in the Lambs youth side, making nine appearances in the Football Conference Youth Alliance during the season. He was loaned out to Midland Alliance side Stratford Town during the season for a month to gain first-team experience

Maye was released in the summer of 2012, linking up with Midland Alliance side Boldmere St. Michaels. A return of eight goals in twenty-two starts in 2012-2013 was bettered the following season, as Maye scored seventeen goals from midfield and took the captaincy of the club as the Mikes finished as runners-up to Tividale

Redditch snapped up the talented player in the summer of 2014 after a period of training with the club, with Maye further impressing at a higher level with consistent displays and goals from midfield to help push Redditch up to a play-off spot by the end of the 2015-2016 season

Liam McDonald's move to Keys Park saw Maye and a number of his team-mates make the same move within a few weeks of their manager leaving Redditch. His early season form was excellent, slotting into the defensive midfield role well and allowing the likes of George Carline and Tom Thorley to play their natural game

However, McDonald's departure from Keys Park saw Maye's game time become limited, with the midfielder rejoining Boldmere on a short loan rather than sit on the bench for the Pitmen. This proved to be something of a smokescreen, as within a week he had linked up with McDonald once more at Solihull

Making the two-division step up proved a challenge for the youngster, who did well in his maiden season at step one with twenty-one starts and thre goals but was to suffer injury frustration in 2017-2018 as recurring issues saw him limited to just three starts. He was sent out on loan to Southern Premier League Central side Rushall Olympic in January 2018 in a bid to pick up more game time, making six starts at Dales Lane in his month there

After missing the whole of the 2018-2019 season due to injury, Maye was released by Moors at the end of his deal, with the midfielder joining Vanarama National League North outfit Hereford in June 2019. He made a handful of appearances for the Bulls at the start of the 2019-2020 season before being released, ending the COVID-hit campaign at another step two outfit, Brackley Town

Another National League North side in the form of Paul Holleran's Leamington was Maye's next destination, although his first season there was once again disrupted by COVID followed by a frustrating 2021-2022 season of more injury issues that kept him out of the side for long periods

The 2022-2023 season was much more of a success for the box-to-box midfield man as he chalked up twenty-two starts for the Brakes before joining league rivals and newly promoted Banbury United in March 2023. His form for the Puritans during his first full season there was outstanding, placing him in the top five midfielders in the league for tackles and interceptions before Rushall served their fellow strugglers with a seven-day approach to bring the Birmingham-born Maye back to Dales Lane on a permanent deal in March 2024. In five appearances for Rushall, Maye picked up some silverware at the end of the campaign as Rushall beat Leek Town 1-0 in the Staffordshire Senior Cup Final

In June 2024, new Hednesford manager Steve King moved to bring the 29-year-old back to Keys Park, adding to his wealth of talent in the midfield area with the capture of Maye
